“Great” you've missed the last train. Just when you thought the day couldn't get any worse. First your boss tells you he's cutting your hours, but he still needs you to stay for cleanup tonight. Then he asks you to interview some kid you know is going to take those hours you're losing. About halfway through your shift you get a text from your girlfriend, she's breaking up with you, says you don't have enough “aspiration” and that you're “holding her back.” like hell you are, she doesn't even have a job. Finally, about 5 min from the end of your day, as you're closing up and cleaning the dining room, a group of 12 comes in, you start to tell them you're about to close when your manager walks out of the back welcoming them and asking them to “please take a seat”. He made you wait on them, even though they stayed two hours after you closed. They made a huge mess of the tables and tracked mud all over the restaurant, which of course you had to clean up. And now this. “I guess I'm walking home,” you think. It's only 5 miles.

With a sigh you begin your tedious and exhausting journey home. The world feels strange at this time of night. You live in the city, so of course you're used to the streets being bustling with people, walking every which way, and attending to every manner of business you can imagine. But now the streets are empty. The only people in sight are the occasional salary man, black out drunk, and passed out in a bush or on the edge of the sidewalk. Very few buildings even have their lights on, making your only source of visibility, the dull yellow street lamps, that half the time were blinking or simply not working.

Street by street, mile by mile, you slowly creep your way home, legs burning, mind racing, emotions high. You turn the corner and see something out of the ordinary, down the street, directly in front of you, and about 3 stories up, a window is open, with the light on. From within that window you see the silhouette of a woman she waves her hand at you to beckon you closer, you oblige. As you approach you realize the woman is beautiful, she has long black hair past her shoulders, and appears to be wearing a white dress, or it could be a white top, you can't really tell since you can only see her upper half in the window.

“Good evening” you yell up to her as you approach. She smiles, continuing to beckon you closer. “Maybe this night won't be so bad after all” you think to yourself, at the very least you get to talk to a beautiful and seemingly friendly girl. You continue to walk towards her until suddenly the woman throws herself from the window, you freeze, did this woman just end her life in front of you, did she call you over just to watch?

You're broken out of your minds desperate attempt to process what you've just seen when you realize the woman isn't lying there she's crawling towards you on all fours, no not on all fours, on two, her arms, the lower half of her body is gone, the bottom of her white shirt drenched in blood, she's pale, pale as the dead, and her eyes are clouded like those of a week old fish. But you barely have time to take in her appearance, she's approaching at astonishing speed.

You take a step back and gasp, but before you can even begin to run she pounces on you, striking at the waist, you hit the ground with a thud, as if you were dropped from a few feet up, you see the woman's legs, she's standing over you, watching you squirm on the ground, then she falls over, or rather just her legs fall, there's no torso attached. No, she didn't have legs, you look down at your waist, you don't have legs, it was your legs you were looking at, you've been sliced in half, but you can barely think enough to be afraid at this point, your thoughts have begun to fade, and the darkness at the corners of your eyes closes in to swallow you whole. Hopefully in your next life, you'll have better luck.
